Aboutus
When I was a little girl I remember not having much for hobbies. My parents didn't have a lot of money, so I had to make do with what I could, and typically that meants a pencil and paper. I didn't really draw my own things at that time, just copied from comics, newspapers, books or whatever else came my way.
My last year in high school brought me to an arts school, where I was intimidated at best by these people who had so much talent and I came in as small-town fry with nothing but my lined-paper drawings mimicking other people's work. I had to pick some kind of art for one of my classes, and as I was not able to enter into the senior level without the prerequisites, I was put into the grade nine art level. How embarassing, right?
Actually, no. I remember how open minded it was, and my art teacher was phenomenal. She encouraged me to create something new: something mine. Before I knew it, I was finished one level and by the end of the year I had finished all four years of art classes in one year, and opened up an entire new world of my own.
Of course, real life gets in the way of hobbies, as do other hobbies, and boyfriends and work and the list goes on, so it was put aside with the occasional dabble into the creative world. Fast forward several years, and I picked up a few things -- chainmaille and sculpey art, primarly. But then something happened -- my time suddenly freed up, and instead of finding a new job my husband and I decided to try full time crafting. "Full-time" is somewhat misleading, as much of my day goes towards home maintenance and my other hobby -- reptiles. But the majority of my day is spent ignoring the movies I put on and getting creative with the many things I have brought home. My "studio" is our living room, and is comfortable, cozy and best lit in the house.
This is still a new endeavour for us, but the outlook is promising.
